Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an empirically-supported 8-week psycho-educational group intervention that teaches mindfulness meditation as a health intervention. Created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979, MBSR offers participants the possibility to develop a different relationship to stress resulting from chronic physical and psychological illnesses. Research outcomes have demonstrated positive improvements in physical and psychological symptoms, as well as changes in health attitudes and behaviors. This Online 10-week teacher training will provide health care professionals and educators the opportunity to study and experience the foundational underpinnings, mindfulness meditations and specific exercises that are the framework of the MBSR program. The themes, rationales, intention and practice skills of each MBSR class session will be reviewed, discussed and practiced. Participant screening guidelines will be covered, and samples of client handouts will be provided. There will also be time set aside for personal mindfulness practice. Learn more about the training.

Tentative Schedule (PT):

Week 1: Orientation & Welcome, Monday (4:00pm-6:30pm)
Week 2-Week 6: Mondays (4:00pm-6:30pm) & Wednesdays (4:00pm-6:30pm)
Week 7: Retreat Day: Sunday (7:00am-2:00pm)
Week 8-10: Mondays (4:00pm-6:30pm) & Wednesdays (4:00pm-6:30pm)

  1. Upon submission of your registration your application will be reviewed for prerequisites and you will be contacted when it has been formally accepted.

  2. Continuing education credits for participation in this program are available for an additional fee.

  3. Full payment must be made 30 days before the start date.

  4. Upon completion of the training, you're required to participate in the Online 10-week MBSR Teacher Training Practicum. Please review the details here.

  5. Note: CFM requires a minimum of 10 registrants per program. Classes with fewer than 10 registrants will be cancelled and provided a refund. Please be aware of this when making arrangements to attend this program.

Cancellation Policy

A refund (minus $300 non-refundable deposit) will be made for cancellations submitted by emailing mindfulness@healthucsd.edu on or before 30 days prior to the start of the course. No refunds will be allowed after this date. Registration, deposits, and funds are non-transferable.

In the unlikely event that the course is cancelled, UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is responsible only for a full refund of the registration fee and not for transportation, hotel accommodations or any miscellaneous expenses.

The refunds are processed in the same method as payment were submitted.
