Enhance your knowledge and skills in integrative medicine, which is evidence-based whole-person care that incorporates all available healing approaches to achieve optimal health and wellbeing. Learn from experts, engage in interactive discussions, and participate in hands-on activities. Deepen your understanding and application of integrative medicine to enhance your clinical practice and patient experience. 

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand the scientific framework of mind-body practices on health and healing.  
  • Be familiar with a range of mindfulness-based practices that patients can utilize for their health and how to access those practices.  
  • Develop one or more self-practices that can be easily taught to a patient in a routine 15- or 20-minute office visit.               

The workshop will cover a range of topics, including nutrition, mindfulness, osteopathic medicine, yoga, auriculotherapy, guided imagery and other evidence-based therapies. The agenda includes presentations, case discussions, and interactive sessions, which will provide you with practical tools and strategies to incorporate integrative medicine into your practice.

9:15-10:30 a.m. Activating and Harnessing Guided Imagery to Boost Self-Efficacy
Discover self-hypnosis and guided imagery techniques that tap into one's deep and directed self-healing ability. Amongst the many forms of meditation available today, guided imagery has a rich history among diverse cultures around the world, as it taps into the deep and directed healing abilities and faculties of the mind. In this session attendees will receive a brief review of the meditation literature over the past few decades that will include a focus on guided imagery techniques and their efficacy, including the Light-Induced Guided Healing Therapy (LIGHT) technique. Discussion will include a current UC San Diego LIGHT study to reduce burnout in healthcare providers.
