The Evolution of LIGHT: A Journey of Healing and Empowerment

Light-Induced Guided Healing Therapy (LIGHT) originated from Paula Marie Jackson's battle with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1999. Paula developed LIGHT as a self-care protocol, later refined into a transferable protocol in collaboration with Thomas Thudiyanplackal. This journey from a personal coping mechanism to a profound therapeutic tool exemplifies the transformative power of self-healing — a personal triumph has become a global therapy.

“What makes this journey rewarding is seeing so many people tap into the greater potential of their mind to improve overall health and experience of life,” Paula shared, highlighting the transformative impact of LIGHT on individuals' lives.

Rigorous Studies at the University of California, San Diego

While Paula independently developed LIGHT, its effectiveness and impact have been rigorously studied by renowned scientists like V.S. Ramachandran and Paul J. Mills at UC San Diego. These studies underscore LIGHT's significance as an evidence-based mind-body therapy that remarkably improves self-efficacy and well-being.

“We have repeatedly found in different LIGHT classes... that their sense of self-efficacy significantly increased,” Dr. Mills highlights the role of LIGHT in enhancing personal mastery and confidence.

Global Expansion and Collaboration

LIGHT expanded globally in 2019 by launching an online course to train hypnotherapy graduates from a top-ranking school in India. This initiative marked a significant step in making LIGHT accessible worldwide, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, LIGHT teamed up with the Palo Alto School of Hypnotherapy, led by Dorthy Tyo, and the Center for Advanced Life Skills in Los Angeles, led by Evelyn Wang and Jack van Landingham. These partnerships aim to create a new curriculum for hypnotherapy training at the UC San Diego Centers for Integrative Health (CIH), marking a pioneering effort in hypnotherapy education in the United States.

LIGHT's Multilingual and Inclusive Approach

Under the leadership of Isabela Tena and Evelyn Wang, LIGHT is reaching new audiences in the Hispanic and Mandarin markets. This expansion aligns with LIGHT's commitment to inclusivity and diversity, making its therapeutic benefits accessible across language barriers.

Join the LIGHT Movement

To meet the growing demand for certified hypnotherapy professionals, the UC San Diego Center for Integrative Education and Paula extend an invitation to join the inaugural Foundational Hypnotherapy Certification Program with NLP Concepts course. This program offers advanced hypnotherapy certification and positions graduates to become certified LIGHT professionals through a secondary program. Paula's vision is clear: to spread the benefits of LIGHT across linguistic and cultural boundaries, empowering individuals globally with the tools for self-healing and personal growth.

Led by esteemed instructors Dorthy Tyo and Evelyn Wang, this 8-week inaugural program combines in-class learning with at-home study, providing a comprehensive exploration of hypnotherapy and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).

After completing this course, participants will:

  • Discover the history and scientific research behind hypnosis and its ability to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
  • Understand the relationship between NLP and hypnotherapy.
  • Engage in practical techniques, including NLP Coaching, to enhance hypnotherapy sessions by delving into the subconscious mind and restructuring linguistic representations, which may foster profound positive changes.
  • Learn techniques for establishing intention and accomplishing hypnotic trance, which delves into the power of vivid imagination and perception.
  • Understand NLP's blend of systematic understanding and creative adaptability, which allows for personalized and responsive interventions, aligning with the concept of neuroplasticity and fostering positive transformations in individuals' minds, language, and behavior.
