Endometriosis is characterized by an abnormal inner uterus tissue growth on the external surfaces of the uterus and possibly the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowels, and or bladder in women. This disease affects up to ten percent of women who suffer from symptoms including great pain, infertility, digestive issues, inappropriate bleeding and a depressed quality of life. Conventional treatments include anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, hormone therapy, and even surgery, and on top of that, the side effects of these treatments may include undesirable weight gain, increased risk of infertility, depression, cardiometabolic complications and bone loss, among others.
However, emerging evidence shows that inflammation and the microbiome are central modifiable tenants to the onset and progression of this condition. Taken together, CIN and CIR have aligned with the Center for Endometriosis Research and Treatment (CERT) to offer women with endometriosis another option using natural intervention strategies through adoption of a whole-foods, plant-based diet to fight and reverse this challenging disease.
