Little Flower Yoga is a New York based organization dedicated to making the tools of yoga and mindfulness available to all children and teens. Our classes are rooted in youth development principles and address children’s holistic wellness needs in a joy filled environment. LFY provides tools that help all children come to school ready to learn, and give parents and teachers strategies and support to reinforce these tools.
A Message From Allan Goldstein
UCSD Center for Mindfulness
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
When I first read Daniel Goleman's call in Emotional Intelligence for mindfulness to be taught in schools I could not have imagined that I would be sending a personal message asking for your support for a conference that brings together the wonderful growing community of people now engaged in that work.
Families today live in a society that is rapidly changing, increasingly demanding, faster moving, overly stimulating, increasingly unpredictable, and financially insecure. In the midst of this, stress-related symptoms and conditions in adults and children alike have become common, and cross all socioeconomic lines. There is an increasing need for both children and parents to develop stress management skills, and cultivate qualities of resilience in order to thrive in our current culture, and to prevent illness.
Raelynn Maloney, Ph.D. has recently published Waking Up: A Parent's Guide to Mindful Awareness and Connection, a very helpful guide to bringing mindfulness into your relationship with your child. Below is a brief excerpt from this new book.
